Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., has stunned many with a change of tone toward the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), declaring that its Executive Director, Raymond Archer, is now his “best friend.”
According to the entertainer, this unexpected friendship arose from what he believes was a divine intervention designed to teach crucial lessons about integrity, transparency, and the proper ways to purchase luxury items and real property.
Earlier in 2025, Shatta Wale became entangled in legal problems when a yellow Lamborghini Urus he is associated with was seized by EOCO. The seizure was part of investigations that connected the vehicle to serious fraud claims under U.S. law.
He was detained briefly by EOCO and later granted bail—initially set at GH¢10 million with two sureties, later reduced to GH¢5 million. Part of the bail conditions included regular reporting to EOCO.
In an interview on JoyPrime TV, Shatta Wale reflected on the incident, portraying his arrest and the ensuing scrutiny as a God-ordained lesson, not merely a punishment.
He suggested that the EOCO boss’s intervention has served a higher purpose: to educate Ghanaians—especially the youth—on how to buy cars and property “from the right sources.”
He said: “Raymond Archer is now my best friend because I feel God sent him for us to educate the people of Ghana — and that’s exactly what he did. He taught us how to buy cars appropriately and from the right sources. Yes, buyer beware. That’s one major problem we’ve solved in this country.”
He further admits that many will still associate Archer with his arrest, and he acknowledges it:
“Maybe you might think he arrested me … But all what he did was God-ordained … He’s really opened our eyes to certain things,” he added.
His statement has sparked mixed reactions—some praise the humility and responsibility displayed; others remain sceptical, questioning the sincerity. (Note: specific public sentiments are less documented in sources so far.)
EOCO’s probe is still active. Shatta Wale has complied with bail conditions and remains under investigation.
