EC to Review Suspension of Presidential Ballot Printing

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced it will review the suspension of the printing of ballot papers for the 2024 presidential election next week.
This decision follows the recent passing of Madam Akua Donkor, the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) Flagbearer, on October 28, 2024.
In line with Article 50 (4) of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, the GFP has been granted ten days to nominate a replacement for Madam Donkor.
Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairman of Corporate Services at the EC, stated during a media briefing that the Commission would address the matter in the coming week, allowing time for any changes to the presidential candidate lineup.
The printing of parliamentary ballots, however, is ongoing across three facilities in Accra—Buck Press, Innolink, and Acts Commercials Limited—where journalists were invited for a firsthand look at the process, aiming to promote transparency.

EC reiterates transparent ballot printing process
Dr. Asare dismissed rumors that the EC had printed an excess of ballots, describing such claims as “complete lies.”
He assured that all political parties, including minor ones and independent candidates, had representation at the facilities to monitor the printing process and confirm ballot quantities and serial numbers.
Mr. Benjamin Bano-Bioh, Director of Electoral Services, noted that the EC is among the few institutions in West Africa that locally prints ballots, reinforcing the Commission’s commitment to transparency.
He stated that agents of political parties observe each stage, marking ballots with both EC and party seals before distribution to regional and constituency levels.
Dr. Francis Nyanin, Executive Director of Buck Press, confirmed the company’s commitment to meeting the printing deadlines, highlighting round-the-clock work to ensure timely completion.
