A downpour has caused havoc at Nkonsia, a farming community in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region, displacing about 600 residents in the community.

The rains, which accompanied incessant storms and lightning, hit the community Tuesday evening, October 21, 2025 and badly affected about 86 houses, ripped up classroom blocks and uprooted some trees in the locality.

During a visit to the farming community on Wednesday, Mr Tangba Kuyab, the Assembly Member for the Nkonsia Electoral Area, appealed for support, saying the displaced persons were presently perched with their relations and friends.

Classroom blocks of the local Presbyterian cluster of schools, and the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Preparatory School, as well as the Presbyterian, Maranatha and the SDA church buildings were also worst affected.

The situation has since brought teaching and learning in those schools to a standstill as the GNA noticed some school children roaming in the community.

Mr Kuyab described the disaster as an emergency and called on the government, corporate bodies and NGOs to come to the aid of the community.

He said some personnel of the Wenchi Municipal office of the National Disaster Management Organisation have since visited the community to assess the level of damage.

Local authorities are assessing the damage and offering emergency support at Nkonsia after the downpour.
