Ghanaian politician and businessman, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has expressed deep sorrow following the official confirmation of the death of highlife icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.
In a heartfelt statement, Agyapong described the legendary singer’s passing as not just a personal tragedy but a monumental loss to the nation.
“With a heart weighed down by sorrow, I have received official confirmation from the family of Charles Kwadwo Fosu, confirming the passing of our beloved Daddy Lumba,” Agyapong wrote in an X post.
“This is more than a personal loss; it’s an irreplaceable wound to the very soul of Ghana,” he stated.
He lauded Daddy Lumba as “the voice of the Ghanaian story,” whose music provided the soundtrack to the nation’s collective joy and sorrow. From celebrations to heartbreaks, Lumba’s songs offered both a melody and a message that resonated across generations.
“In our moments of joy, his music lifted us. In our seasons of pain, his songs wept with us, giving words to emotions we couldn’t express,” he added.
Agyapong also recalled the artist’s patriotic contribution to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), praising him for gifting the party “an anthem of hope” while never straying from his commitment to Ghana as a whole. “He always remained a son of Ghana first,” he emphasised.
Referencing one of Lumba’s own poignant lyrics from Makra Mo, Agyapong noted the painful relevance of the line: “Farewell, perhaps this is the last time you’ll see me.” He described it as a fitting, though heartbreaking, farewell from a man whose words and melodies shaped the nation’s soul.
