Government has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Nalerigu Township and surrounding communities in the North East Region following recent violence that has raised security concerns in the area.

The curfew imposed on Nalerigu, issued through an Executive Instrument by the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, takes effect from Thursday, December 18, 2025, and will run daily from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

The decision was taken on the advice of the National Security Council as part of efforts to restore calm and prevent further disturbances.

In a statement announcing the measures, the government appealed to chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth groups, and residents to exercise restraint and resolve grievances through peaceful means.

It stressed that maintaining law and order was critical to safeguarding lives and property in the wake of the violence.

As part of the security response, authorities have imposed a total ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons within Nalerigu and its environs. Anyone found in possession of such items will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The curfew is accompanied by additional restrictions, including a ban on the movement of motorbikes, a prohibition on the wearing of smocks, a ban on the sale of fuel in containers, and a restriction on unlawful public gatherings. Security agencies have been deployed to enforce the directives.

Government has urged residents to cooperate fully with security personnel and comply with all restrictions to help restore peace and stability to the area.
