Complete National Cathedral with your own money-Mahama tells Christians

President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaian Christians to rally together to complete the National Cathedral project without relying on public funds.
Speaking at the Christian National Thanksgiving Service held at the University for Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), he emphasized the need to execute the project at a significantly reduced cost.
“It makes no sense to undertake such a project at a staggering $400 million,” President Mahama stated.
He drew comparisons with Nigeria’s National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja, which serves all Christian denominations and was completed at a cost of $30 million.
“I believe we can achieve this project at a much more reasonable figure, and together, we can raise the necessary funds,” he said. The President also suggested reconsidering the current site of the project as part of the effort to cut costs.

CHRAJ-Mandated Audit
President Mahama revealed that his administration would soon launch an investigation into the National Cathedral project. This action follows a directive from the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to audit the project and investigate potential misuse of public funds.

“We are enjoined to follow that directive, and such an investigation will be activated soon,” the President affirmed.

Focus on accountability and integrity in leadership
The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and ethical governance. Quoting Proverbs 29:2, he said, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice.”
President Mahama pledged to lead a government focused on justice and fairness, emphasizing a relentless fight against corruption.
“Any persons appointed to public office will be held to the highest ethical and professional standards,” he said.

Dignitaries and clergy in attendance
The service was attended by Vice-President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, First Lady Lordina Mahama, and key members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), including National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, and Members of Parliament.
Prominent clergy members were also present, including Reverend Dr. Stephen Wengam of Assemblies of God, Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah of Royalhouse Chapel, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams of Christian Action Faith Ministries, and Archbishop Charles Agyinasare of Perez Chapel International.
