Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has reportedly been hospitalised shortly after reports emerged of his arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Wontumi, according to his lawyer, Andy Appiah Kubi, the only person who had access to him at the EOCO office, his client has been taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

He said “My client has been taken to the hospital. He’s receiving treatment, so he’ll be there until the doctor discharges him.”

Wontumi was picked up shortly after he had honoured an invitation from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to assist with an undisclosed investigation, which triggered a strong response from party members.

According to insider sources, EOCO arrested Chairman Wontumi in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged financial misconduct and corruption-related activities.

While EOCO has yet to release an official statement detailing the nature of the allegations, the arrest has generated widespread public interest and online debate.

Just hours after the arrest, reports surfaced that Chairman Wontumi had been rushed to a private hospital in Accra, allegedly due to health complications.

As EOCO continues its investigation into Chairman Wontumi, all eyes remain on both the legal proceedings and his medical condition. Political analysts note that the case could have significant implications for the NPP’s leadership in the Ashanti Region as well as the party’s public image.
