Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has praised the quality and growing maturity of Ghana’s women’s national team after steering them to a dominant 7-0 aggregate victory over Egypt to qualify for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The Swedish tactician, who guided the Queens to a bronze medal at the last WAFCON, believes Ghanaian players possess the technical ability and mentality to excel at elite clubs abroad while maintaining the country’s resurgence in women’s football.

“The quality in the team is really, really good. I think there is another level in the team,” Björkegren said after the match.

“If you look at the players, there are many who are ready to take the next step. Many of them, even those already playing abroad, can play strongly in better teams.”

He cited the progress of youngsters Comfort Yeboah and Nancy Amoh, who recently signed for Spanish side DUX Logroño, as proof that Ghana’s women’s football pipeline is flourishing.

“I’m happy when I see young players like Comfort and Nancy going to Spain. That’s a perfect step for them,” he noted.

“What they’re doing day by day with their club teams will help us in the national team.”

At the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, Ghana sealed their qualification in style with a 4-0 thrashing of Egypt, adding to their 3-0 first-leg win in Cairo.

Though the Egyptians struck the post twice in the opening half, the Black Queens roared back after the break with a commanding display of pace, precision, and teamwork.

Doris Boaduwaa opened the scoring in the 52nd minute and doubled the lead three minutes later after a slick combination with Grace Asantewaa and Princess Marfo.

Comfort Yeboah made it 3-0 in the 57th minute before Boaduwaa completed her hat-trick in stoppage time, capping a superb performance that left the crowd on its feet.

The emphatic win secured Ghana’s place at the 2026 WAFCON, which also doubles as the qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

The Black Queens, who are looking to improve on their bronze medal finish at the 2025 tournament, have sent a strong message to the rest of the continent about their intent and readiness to reclaim their place among Africa’s elite.

“This qualification is just the beginning,” Björkegren said confidently. “We want to be competitive at every level, and I believe this group can achieve something special for Ghana.”
