The Ghana Education Service (GES) has explained how the aggregates for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) are calculated under the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
The clarification is aimed at guiding students, parents, and teachers as this year’s placement process gets underway.
Core subjects plus best two
According to Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, a BECE candidate’s aggregate is determined by summing up grades from four core subjects—English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies—together with the best two grades from the other remaining subjects.
This means the formula stands as: English + Mathematics + Science + Social Studies + [Best Two Subjects].
Fenyi stressed that while raw scores remain the primary metric for placement, the overall aggregate also plays a significant role in determining which school a candidate is placed in.
CSSPS portal active
The CSSPS team has also reminded the public that the official placement portal is currently live and active. Candidates are advised to log in via the official link—https://www.cssps.gov.gh/hub/login —to confirm their school choices.
“Should you notice any discrepancies or have concerns, kindly use the Message option on the portal to submit them. The CSSPS team operates around the clock to assist candidates and make the process as smooth as possible,” Fenyi assured.
Deadline for access
The portal will remain open until September 8, 2025, after which access will be closed. Students and parents are therefore encouraged not to delay in confirming their choices and addressing any challenges.
The GES has also invited the public to provide feedback on their experience with the portal, noting that continuous improvement remains a key priority.
GES had announced that the 2025 school placement into senior high schools will commence on September 17, 2025.
Students are expected to report to their respective schools between October 18 and 20, 2025.
WAEC, in a statement issued on August 24, announced the release of the provisional results for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination.
The results of 177 candidates were cancelled, while the subject results of 718 candidates were cancelled and 1,240 withheld. Additionally, the entire results of 93 candidates were withheld.
