Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, has said he has the proven track record and innovative ideas needed to transform Ghana’s economy, declaring that if elected President, he will make living conditions in the country comparable to those abroad — a vision he described as bringing “Abrokyire” to Ghana.

Dr Bawumia made this known when he addressed party supporters and outlined what he considers key achievements under his tenure as Vice President, especially in the area of digital transformation in Ghana, Citi News reports stated.

He emphasised that before the current administration, the Ghana Card system was not operational. According to him, he was assigned oversight responsibility and worked closely with the National Identification Authority (NIA) to ensure the successful nationwide rollout of the digital ID.

“We issued the Ghana Card, and today Ghana is one of the few countries in the world with this type of digital national ID,” he said.

Dr Bawumia also highlighted major reforms in the mobile money and fintech ecosystem. He recalled that mobile money transfers were once restricted to single networks and could not be linked to bank accounts.

“I said it was possible for us to do it in Ghana, and we have done it,” he stated.

He noted that the introduction of mobile money interoperability has transformed MoMo accounts into powerful digital financial tools, enabling Ghanaians to renew health insurance, pay utility bills, and even receive international transfers directly into their mobile wallets. He stressed that Ghana remains the only country in Africa with such a seamless digital financial platform.

According to him, the growth of mobile money services has sparked significant job creation.

“When we came, the MoMo agents were 107,000. Now they are 900,000. We have created 800,000 jobs for MoMo agents.”

Dr. Bawumia urged Ghanaians to assess him based on the tangible results he has delivered as Vice President, arguing that transformational leadership is driven by innovative ideas—not money.

“You have seen what I can do as Vice President without the power. If you make me president with the power, I will bring ‘Abrokyire’ to Ghana here,” he declared.
