We’re sorry for the wrong things we did in gov’t — Bawumia apologises for NPP’s failures

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has publicly acknowledged the failings of the NPP-led government and appealed to Ghanaians for forgiveness and renewed support.

Speaking during an engagement in London, Dr. Bawumia admitted that while the NPP had made considerable progress in governance, it had also fallen short in several areas.

In a frank and introspective statement, he said, “The NPP did a lot of work, there’s no doubt about that, but we did not get everything right. We got quite a few things wrong, and I think that, on my own behalf and on behalf of the party and the government, I apologise to all of you for us not getting the things right that we should have gotten.”

He further reassured the public that the party has taken lessons from its past mistakes and is prepared to deliver better results if granted another mandate.

“I believe that if, by the grace of God, we have another opportunity, I believe that we will get many things right, because we have learned the lessons of where we are going,” he added.

Dr. Bawumia’s remarks come in the aftermath of the NPP’s poor showing in the 2024 general elections.

In response, the party has embarked on a nationwide Thank You Tour—an initiative sanctioned by the NPP’s National Council—to express gratitude to supporters, reinforce internal cohesion, and recognise divine guidance.

The tour also serves as a platform to reconnect with the grassroots and reflect on the party’s path forward after its electoral defeat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
