The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has secured a favourable spot on the ballot for the upcoming December 7, 2024, presidential election.
During the Electoral Commission’s (EC) balloting event held in Accra on Friday, Evans Nimako, the NPP’s Director of Elections, drew the party’s position.
This election will feature a mix of political parties and independent candidates, making it a dynamic and highly anticipated race as Ghanaians prepare to cast their votes in December.
This sets the stage for what is expected to be a highly competitive election.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC), the main opposition party, was assigned the 8th position on the ballot.
The second position on the ballot went to the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), represented by Daniel Augustus Lartey Jnr., while Akua Donkor of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) secured the third spot.
Christian Kwabena Andrews of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) landed the fourth position, followed by Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) in fifth place. Mohamed Frimpong of the New Democratic Party (NDP) was placed sixth, and Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Kumakuma of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) secured the seventh spot.
The All People’s Congress (APC), led by Hassan Ayariga, was drawn in the ninth position.
Kofi Koranteng, an independent candidate, took the 10th spot, with fellow independent George Twum Barima occupying the 11th position.
The New Force Movement, led by Nana Kwame Bediako (Cheddar), will appear 12th on the ballot, and Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen of the Movement for Change will be listed last at number 13.
The EC’s balloting process, which took place on September 20, 2024, saw 13 presidential aspirants successfully cleared to contest.
A total of 24 aspirants had filed nominations, but 11 failed to meet the EC’s criteria.
The unsuccessful aspirants are: Mr Samuel Apea-Danquah (Independent Candidate); , Ms Janet Asana Nabla (People’s National Party); Mr Desmond Kwame Abrefa (Independent); Nana Stephens Agyapong (Independent); Mr Bernard Mornah (People’s National Convention); ; Dr Paul Perko (Independent); Mr James Kwasi Oppong (Independent); Dr John Kpikpi (Progressive Alliance Ghana); Dr Sam Ankrah (Independent); Dr Nii Amu Darko (Independent), and Mr Kofi Asamoah-Siaw
