Azumah Resources has taken a decisive step toward transforming Ghana’s next major gold mining frontier with the signing of a $37.5 million procurement agreement with Danish mining technology giant FLSmidth (FLS), a move that is expected to significantly fast-track the development of the Black Volta and Sankofa gold concessions in the Upper West Region.
The agreement, signed in Accra on Friday, December 12, 2025, covers the supply of critical long-lead mining and processing equipment whose manufacture typically takes close to a year.
Equipment ordered
These include crushers, mills, processing systems and associated technical support packages that are central to the construction and operation of a modern large-scale gold mine.

Company officials say securing these items early is crucial to keeping the project on schedule as Azumah Resources moves steadily toward full-scale gold production.
Addressing journalists shortly after the signing ceremony, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Azumah Resources, Mr. Noel Addo, described the deal as a strategic intervention designed to eliminate delays that often plague large mining projects.
“These items will take close to forty-six weeks to manufacture, so we need to pay for them now, while we start getting the other items as well.
That is the essence of today’s ceremony,” Mr. Addo explained. “FLS is well known in the mining industry, and their presence alone gives us so much leverage.”
The $37.5 million agreement appoints FLSmidth as Azumah Resources’ strategic technology and equipment partner for the Black Volta Gold Project, a flagship mining venture expected to reshape Ghana’s gold production landscape.
According to the Board of Directors of Azumah Resources Ghana Ltd, the contract covers all long-lead equipment valued at approximately $37 million, marking a major milestone in the construction and development of the project.

For FLSmidth, the partnership represents a continuation of its long history of supplying advanced mining technology across Africa and other regions.
Equipment, systems that enhance efficiency
Speaking on behalf of the Danish firm, Mr. Alistair Mackay, Vice-President for Capital Sales in Europe, Arabia and Africa, said the company is focused on delivering equipment and systems that will enhance efficiency and output at the Black Volta mine.
“The signing today is really around the long-lead items, so there’s going to be a lot of equipment,” Mr. Mackay noted.

“We expect to install the detail early next year, and anticipate that six months from now we will see construction.”
Under the procurement contract, FLSmidth will supply a comprehensive suite of processing and mining equipment.
This includes gyratory crushers and a Raptor cone crusher, semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) and ball mills, a pre-leach thickener, screens and apron feeders, as well as KREBS cyclones and pumps.

The scope of supply also covers absorption, desorption and refining (ADR) systems, along with detoxification systems required for responsible gold processing.
Beyond the physical equipment, the agreement provides for extensive technical and operational support.
FLSmidth will deliver engineering assistance to the project’s EPC contractor during the detailed engineering phase, and will also be responsible for on-site support during erection, installation, start-up and commissioning of the processing plant.
Operator training, spare parts supply and performance guarantees for the process equipment are also included, ensuring that the mine meets both production targets and international operational standards.

Delivery of the equipment is scheduled for 2026, well ahead of the planned mine start-up in 2027.
With the signing ceremony completed and the equipment order formally placed, Azumah Resources has confirmed that construction and development activities toward first gold production at the Black Volta Project have officially commenced.
The procurement agreement comes on the back of a far more consequential financial milestone that resolved longstanding ownership disputes surrounding the project.
