As the Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) searches for renewed energy, credibility, and growth, one candidate is positioning himself as the leader to deliver that transformation.
Awudu Mahama, seasoned journalist and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Wanuala Ventures, publishers of The Custodian newspaper and thecustodianghonline.com, has officially launched his bid to become the next President of PRINPAG.
He has pledged to anchor his leadership on integrity, humility, unity, and transparency—values he insists are indispensable for an institution that thrives on trust and credibility.
“The welfare of members will be my foremost priority,” he declared, promising to ensure that private publishers and online news platforms are supported, respected, and empowered in Ghana’s competitive and fast-evolving media space.
Consultative and inclusive leadership
Unlike campaigns driven by personal ambition, Mr. Mahama stresses that his decision to contest stems from wide consultations with colleagues across the industry.
He believes PRINPAG’s greatest strength lies in collective participation and that only through unity can the Association earn the recognition and influence it deserves within Ghana’s media landscape.
“PRINPAG should be an Association where every member feels included, valued, and represented,” he said.
“Together, we can build an organisation that is stronger, more united, and more relevant than ever before.”
25 years of journalism experience
With more than 25 years of professional experience, Mahama’s candidacy rests on both expertise and lived understanding of the challenges confronting private publishers.
He has served as editor of several leading private newspapers and worked with some of Ghana’s most prominent media organisations, including ghelections.com (set up by Citi FM for the 2016 general elections), Daily Guide, Daily Dispatch, Punch, The Publisher and The Vanguard.
His proven track record of resilience, credibility, and innovation, he argues, makes him well-equipped to reposition PRINPAG at the heart of Ghana’s media development.
A vision beyond titles
Awudu Mahama insists his campaign is not about titles or prestige, but about service.
He is offering members a vision of an Association that upholds dignity while defending the collective interests of private publishers.
By entrusting him with their mandate, members, he says, will be endorsing a leader ready to champion professionalism, defend press freedom, and push for the welfare of every member.
“The choice before PRINPAG is clear,” Mahama argues. “We must choose a leader who embodies experience, integrity, and the temperament to unite our Association. I am ready to serve with all humility and dedication.”
Educational background
Mahama holds a Diploma in Journalism from Manifold Tutorial College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, and a Master of Arts in Migration Studies, both from the University of Ghana, Legon.
His combination of academic training and practical newsroom experience, he believes, gives him the perspective to balance policy leadership with industry realities.
As PRINPAG heads toward its leadership elections, the campaign of Awudu Mahama is already shaping up as a call for renewal and transformation—one that positions him not just as a candidate, but as a unifying force for the future of Ghana’s private media.
