The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is expected to submit a comprehensive report on the mediation process in the protracted Bawku conflict to President John Dramani Mahama today.
The report is the outcome of months of engagement led by the Asantehene, who has been heading a high-level mediation effort aimed at restoring lasting peace to the conflict-prone area in the Upper East Region.
The process involved consultations with traditional leaders, community representatives, security agencies, and other key stakeholders connected to the dispute.
The mediation report outlines the root causes of the conflict, key findings from stakeholder engagements, and recommendations intended to guide government action toward a sustainable resolution.
The Bawku conflict, which has persisted for years, has led to loss of lives, displacement of residents, and disruption of economic and social activities.
Successive governments have relied on traditional mediation alongside security interventions to address the situation.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s role has been widely praised for emphasising dialogue, inclusiveness, and respect for traditional authority as tools for peacebuilding.
President Mahama is expected to review the Bawku recommendations and consult further with relevant institutions on the next steps, as his administration reiterates its commitment to restoring peace and stability in Bawku and surrounding communities.
The submission of the report is viewed as a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to resolve one of Ghana’s most enduring communal conflicts.
