Arrests over NDC looting, vandalism rises to 97-Police

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that arrests connected to post-election violence, including attacks, looting, and property destruction, have risen to 97.
This follows the apprehension of eight individuals linked to an attack on the Metro Mass Transit (MMT) workshop in Sunyani, Bono Region.
The suspects, identified as Issakah Taugfic, Abudu Isaiah, Abdul Latif Mohammed, Mohammad Azandoro, Alhassan Issah, Amadu Mohammad, Abdulai Adams, and Abdulai Ibrahim, allegedly stormed the MMT workshop on Monday, threatening workers and forcing them to vacate the premises.

Police swift response
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Police Service, disclosed details of the arrests during a media briefing.
She noted that a distress call from the workshop prompted a rapid response from police teams, resulting in the suspects being apprehended on-site.
“The suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing,” ACP Ansah-Akrofi stated. She emphasized the Police Service’s commitment to ensuring public safety and restoring calm amid the ongoing unrest.

Commitment to Peace and Security
The Police, working in collaboration with other security agencies, have assured Ghanaians of their resolve to maintain law and order. “We are determined to protect life and property and will deal decisively with anyone found to be engaging in unlawful activities,” ACP Ansah-Akrofi added.
The rise in arrests comes as Ghana grapples with a wave of post-election violence, largely attributed to supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Public institutions, private properties, and vital infrastructure have been targeted in the unrest, raising concerns about national stability.
The Police have called on the public to remain calm and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
Meanwhile, the suspects are expected to face legal proceedings as investigations continue to uncover the full scope of their involvement.
This latest development underscores the urgent need for coordinated efforts between security forces, political leadership, and the public to curb the rising wave of violence and restore order in affected areas.
