Appointments: NDC gurus, others defend Mrs Lordina Mahama

Several high-ranking officials of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and some individuals who do not belong to the party have come to the defense of First Lady Mrs Lordina Mahama, strongly refuting allegations that she is influencing government appointments made by President John Dramani Mahama.
Describing the accusations as baseless and a calculated attempt to tarnish her reputation, they called on NDC members and the general public to disregard such claims.
The issue has highlighted ongoing frustrations within the party regarding appointments and representation.

Allegations branded as a smear campaign
Many who expressed their displeasure over the accusations contacted this paper to defend Mrs. Mahama, stressing that she did not request them to speak on her behalf.
However, they felt a strong sense of duty to counter what they labeled as a smear campaign against her.
According to them, the allegations are politically motivated, aimed at discrediting Mrs. Lordina Mahama and sowing discord within the NDC.
They emphasized that the selection of government officials remains the sole prerogative of President Mahama, who makes such decisions in consultation with party leaders and advisors.
While choosing to remain anonymous, these defenders categorically dismissed claims that Mrs. Mahama had played any role in appointing or rejecting individuals for ministerial or leadership positions.
They questioned the timing of the accusations, suggesting they were orchestrated to create unnecessary divisions within the party.

Call for party unity and discipline
Addressing the issue, they urged party members to remain united and focus on supporting the government’s agenda.
Some of those who spoke expressed their frustration in strong terms, warning that internal divisions fueled by false accusations could damage the party’s long-term prospects.
They also condemned what they described as a troubling trend of personal attacks against political figures and their families, arguing that such tactics only serve to weaken party cohesion and distract from governance priorities.

Moving forward
Political observers suggest that party leadership must take proactive steps to address internal concerns and reinforce cohesion.
Ensuring a transparent appointment process and effective communication within party ranks could help quell the rising discontent and strengthen unity ahead of upcoming political challenges.
