Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has reiterated that any party member dissatisfied with the current direction of the party is free to voluntarily resign rather than create internal friction.

His comments follow recent public criticisms from Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, who, in an interview on Channel One TV described the NPP as a “fake party” and declared that he no longer considers himself a member.

According to him, the party he once proudly served has been fundamentally altered.

“The present NPP is not NPP. It is fake. From what I see now, this is not the NPP I used to know,” he said, expressing disappointment over what he views as a significant deviation from the party’s original values.

When asked whether he still identified as a member of the party, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng distanced himself from what he called its current form, adding: “Not the fake one. The real one is there. It is a virtual thing. The members are in the background.”

Responding to these assertions, Haruna Mohammed stressed that the NPP has established structures for addressing internal grievances and urged members to use these channels rather than actions that weaken party cohesion.

He noted that while the party welcomes diverse opinions, it will not tolerate conduct that undermines its collective goals.

Mohammed emphasised that those who no longer align with the party’s vision are free to exit.

“If there is anybody who has to leave, let him leave. The NPP is a national party you joined voluntarily; nobody forced you. If you feel that something untoward is being done that doesn’t align with your expectations, you can appropriately make arrangements to leave,” he said.

He further stated that the party’s constitution guides members who wish to take such a step.

“The NPP is a recognised corporate party. If anyone disagrees with decisions or matters within the party, he can read the constitution and take an exit or early leave,” he said in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM.
