   Suspects arrested in Ablekuma bullion van robbery rises to 4

The number of suspects arrested in connection with the Ablekuma bullion van robbery which resulted in the murder of General Lance Corporal Callistus Amoah has risen to four.

The fourth suspect Blessing Njoma, a Nigerian was arrested on Saturday at Asigame market in Lome, the capital of Togo.

The arrest of the fourth suspect was a collaboration between Ghana Police Service and Togo Interpol.

Two of the suspects Benjamin Ojogbe, unemployed and Rashid Abdul have been remanded into Police custody by the Kaneshie District Court.

They were picked up at Circle Railways while they were “enjoying themselves” at about 1:30am.

The name of the fourth suspect  Suspects arrested in the bullion van robbery has not been disclosed.

Their accomplices are said to have bolted with GH₵145, 163.08.

According to police information, the Aflao District Police Command gathered intelligence that one of the suspects has been spotted in Asigame market in Lome, Togo.

District Crime Officer Deputy Superintend of Police (DSP) Eric Vondee, Inspectors Gabriel Damadzi, Martin Afari Koranteng and Corporal  Issah Ayamba  proceeded to Asigame market in Lome-Togo.

With the assistance of Togo Interpol, they arrested suspect Blessing Njoma, a Nigerian.

The suspect was searched at the spot but nothing incriminating was found on him.

The police information said the suspect was taken to Togo Interpol Headquarters and when his body was searched, old bullet scars were found on the right shoulder.

He told the police that the old bullet scars were the result of being shot in Nigeria in 2014 in a fight.

Police say efforts are being made to search his place of abode before bringing him to Ghana.

The accused persons have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and murder of Lance Corporal Callistus Amoah. Their pleas were not taken.

The accused persons in the bullion Van attack are expected to reappear before the court presided over by Nana Abena Asor Owusu Amenyo on July 24.

Videos of the incident show members of the public rescuing the fatally shot policeman from a pick-up truck.

The truck with registration number GT 1254-10 was attacked shortly after stopping at the fuel station.

The vehicle stopped at the fuel station to pick up cash.

The driver of the truck, however, escaped unhurt during the attack.

The police officer was said to have been shot multiple times in a suspected robbery attempt on occupants of the van at a fuel station at Ablekuma.

The policeman was seated in a passenger seat in front of the vehicle on security duties when he was shot at close range.
