The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to unveil its manifesto for the 2024 elections in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18.
This announcement was made by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, in a statement on Monday.
To ensure the successful execution of the launch event, an 11-member committee has been established.
The committee is chaired by Oboshie Sai-Coffie, with Abena Asante serving as the secretary.
Other members include Henry Nana Boakye, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Fatimatu Abubakar, Dr. Antoinette Tsibo-Darko, Kate Gyamfuah, Ndede Siah, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Anthony Abayifa Karbo, and Alhaji Haruna Mohammed.
In the run-up to the December 7 election, the NPP Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has been touring the country to garner support.
During his tour, Dr. Bawumia has engaged with various groups, including religious leaders, labor unions, professional associations, traders, market queens, and youth groups, to present his vision for the country’s future.
Dr. Bawumia has outlined several key initiatives, including the implementation of a flat tax rate in 2025 following a tax amnesty for all individuals in the country.
To stabilize the Cedi and prevent further depreciation, he emphasized the importance of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) having adequate gold reserves.
He assured that his administration would ensure that all gold concessions are owned by Ghanaians and that gold processed in the country would be sold to the Central Bank to boost the nation’s reserves.
Additionally, Dr. Bawumia plans to resource the Geological Survey Authority and technical universities to explore the country’s seven gold belts, aiming to ensure positive outcomes from gold concessions.
He also proposed the establishment of a Minerals Development Bank to support small-scale miners in sourcing funding, noting that the sector has the potential to generate three billion dollars annually.
On the topic of fiscal discipline, Dr. Bawumia pledged that his administration would ensure the independence of the Fiscal Responsibility Council with oversight over the Ministry of Finance.
He also committed to reducing government expenditure by three percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), amounting to approximately GH₵30 billion annually, and to limiting his administration to no more than 50 ministers.
Regarding constitutional matters, Dr. Bawumia promised to review Article 87 of the 1992 Constitution and the National Development Planning Commission Act (Act 479) to better align with the nation’s development aspirations. He believes that innovative ideas, well-structured systems, and efficient institutions are essential for transforming the country.
The theme for the NPP campaign is “Bold Solutions for our Future,” with the slogan “#Itispossible.”
