MTN Ghana Foundation has empowered 33 former Trokosi girls from the Baptist Vocational Training Centre in Frankadua, Eastern Region, equipping them with skills and resources to start their own businesses.
The graduates received certificates in Catering, Hairdressing, Dressmaking, and Cosmetology and were provided with seed capital and essential start-up tools.
Providing tools for success
MTN Ghana Foundation’s support included gas cylinders, ovens, sewing machines, fabrics, sewing kits, hair dryers, washing basins, and hair products, ensuring the young women are well-prepared to launch their businesses immediately.
This investment aims to foster self-reliance among the graduates and to help them break free from cycles of poverty.
Building self-reliance and economic empowerment
Commenting on the initiative, Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, said, “We hope that our support will aid in their reintegration into society, reduce dependency on their families, and ultimately help break the cycle of poverty.”
She further emphasized the Foundation’s goal of helping the women use their skills to improve their livelihoods and contribute to their communities.
Recognition from Baptist Vocational Training Centre
Rev. Emmanuel Obani, Head of the Baptist Vocational Training Centre, expressed gratitude to MTN Ghana Foundation, stating, “This timely assistance will greatly benefit the beneficiaries in their career paths.”
The Foundation previously supported 15 former Trokosi girls in 2021, with successful outcomes prompting the Foundation to expand support this year.
