During an inspection of the facilities by a delegation comprising top officials from security institutions, Mr. Edward Asomani, the National Security Coordinator, reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Ghana Armed Forces in equipping and maintaining the Sandema Forward Operating Base.
He commended the constructor for the speedy completion of the project and expressed gratitude to the troops for their dedication to national security.
Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Oppong Peprah, also praised the Ministry of National Security for its significant contributions to the establishment of the Sandema Forward Operating Base.
He reaffirmed the military’s dedication to protecting the state and its citizens, stressing the importance of collaborative efforts in ensuring Ghana’s security interests.
The Forward Operating Base in Sandema is strategically positioned to address the increasing threats posed by terrorism and violent extremism, particularly from neighboring countries like Southern Burkina Faso and Northern Togo.
The establishment of the base is not solely a military decision but a part of a comprehensive national security strategy aimed at safeguarding Ghana’s borders, maintaining internal stability, and fostering an environment conducive to national development.
Situated in a vulnerable location near Ghana’s northern border the Sandema Forward Operating Base acts as a critical defense line against incursions and infiltration from regions afflicted by instability and conflict.
Equipped with advanced surveillance technologies and intelligence-gathering capabilities, the base serves as an observatory, monitoring movements along border regions and detecting potential security breaches in real-time.
Its strategic proximity to Burkina Faso and Togo heightens its significance, necessitating a proactive approach to counter emerging risks before they escalate into crises.
By maintaining constant vigilance, the base enhances situational awareness and allows for swift responses to emerging threats, contributing to overall national security.
The visit to the Sandema Forward Operating Base underscores Ghana’s proactive approach to national security, acknowledging the evolving nature of contemporary threats and the importance of adaptive strategies.
Accompanying the delegation were Director General of the National Intelligence Bureau, Mr. Nana Attobrah Quaicoe, and several senior officers of the Ghana Armed Forces, demonstrating a collaborative effort in addressing shared security challenges.
