The Local Union of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has strongly opposed a planned demonstration against the appointment of Brigadier-General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono as the Director-General of GPHA.
The protest is scheduled to take place on Monday, February 10, 2025, at 5:00 AM at the GPHA Headquarters in Tema.
Union dissociates from unlawful protest
In a statement issued by Emmanuel Arhin, Chairman of the Local Union of GPHA, the union condemned the planned protest, labeling it as an unlawful act.
He urged all stakeholders, particularly those in Tema and surrounding areas, to refrain from participating in the demonstration.
Respect for presidential appointments
Mr. Arhin emphasized that the appointment of Brigadier-General Tanye-Kulono was a legitimate decision made by the President of the Republic of Ghana.
He highlighted the union’s respect for the President’s authority in making such appointments and called for cooperation from all parties.
Support for new Director-General
The union took the opportunity to congratulate Brigadier-General Tanye-Kulono on his appointment, expressing confidence in his leadership and experience.
“We believe that his expertise and leadership skills will be invaluable assets to the organization,” the statement read.
Call for calm and order
The union urged all members of the public to remain calm and continue with their normal duties.
It reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and stability within the GPHA community and assured collaboration with relevant authorities to address any unlawful activities promptly.

As the new Director-General assumes office, the GPHA Local Union looks forward to working closely with him to promote the welfare and interests of its members.
