Scores of Ghanaian football supporters attended the final funeral rites of Asante Kotoko fan Yaw Frimpong, often known as ‘Nana Pooley.’
On Thursday, March 6, 2025, the Heroes Park in Kumasi witnessed a solemn day in Ghanaian football history as supporters mourned Nana Pooley, who tragically passed away at the Nana Koronmansah Park in Nsoatre.
The funeral drew a large crowd, including football officials, fans, and well-wishers who gathered to honor the memory of the devoted supporter who played a key role in shaping Asante Kotoko’s passionate fan culture.
Representatives from clubs across the country, including Hearts of Oak, Bechem United, Berekum Chelsea, and Nations FC, were present to pay their respects.
A delegation from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), led by President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, also attended the funeral to bid farewell to Nana Pooley. The GFA President was accompanied by Executive Council members, Regional Football Association Chairmen, club executives, and other officials, all showing solidarity with Asante Kotoko during this difficult time.
The late Nana Pooley was laid to rest at the Ahafo Kukuom Royal Mausoleum on the same day, marking an emotional farewell for the cherished fan.
The scenes at the funeral highlighted the unity and mutual respect within Ghanaian football, as the entire football family rallied behind Asante Kotoko in mourning their dedicated supporter.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Nana Pooley’s death, with football fans calling for justice to be served.
