44 Democracy Hub demonstrators arrested for lawlessness

A total of 44 demonstrators associated with the Democracy Hub group have been arrested for various acts of lawlessness at the 37 Intersection in Accra.
According to a statement issued by the Ghana Police Service, 42 individuals were arrested on Sunday, with two more apprehended on Monday.
The statement, signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, revealed that the Police are actively pursuing other perpetrators, including one of the group’s leaders, Oliver Vormawor, to ensure they face justice.

Unlawful assembly and confrontation with police
The demonstrators, who had unlawfully gathered at the 37 Intersection, were reportedly involved in multiple illegal acts, including attacking police officers performing their duties. The Police claim that some of the demonstrators entered a police vehicle, removed its ignition key, and threw it away. Additionally, they were accused of pushing down police crash barriers, obstructing traffic, causing unlawful damage, and disturbing public peace.

Perpetrators to face justice
The Police confirmed that all 44 suspects, including some leaders of the group, are currently in custody and will be presented before the court.
The Police statement also expressed appreciation to the public for their cooperation and reassured citizens that the force remains dedicated to maintaining peace, security, and order.

Call for continued vigilance
In the wake of these arrests, the Police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring law and order, while cautioning the public to avoid unlawful assemblies and activities that disrupt public safety.
