Some 1,299 drivers across the country were apprehended by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) for operating without licence.
These unlawful acts which took place in 2021 showed a 111% increase from some 616 offences (operating without license) in the previous year – 2020.
Ashanti -653 drivers without licence
The Ashanti Region recorded 653 drivers without licence. This figure represents the highest of such offences in the regions.
Greater Accra-309 drivers without licence
Some 309 drivers in this region were recorded for driving without licence in the said period. The number (309) represents the second highest of such offenses in the country.
Western –86 drivers without licence
The Western Region held the third-highest record of drivers caught operating without licence. About 86 drivers were arrested in the said period.
Western North- 57 drivers without licence
Some 57 vehicle operators were recorded in this region driving without licence.
Bono-56 drivers without licence
The Eastern Region saw about 56 drivers working without licence in the period under review.
Central-47 drivers without licence
In this region, about 47 drivers were arrested for operating without licence in 2021.
Eastern-40 drivers without licence
Some 40 drivers were recorded in the Eastern Region without licence.
Bono East-17 drivers without licence
The Bono regions recorded 17 drivers driving without their licences in the said period.
Ahafo-10 drivers without licence
About 10 drivers were arrested for driving without licence within this period.
Volta-7 drivers without licence
Some seven drivers were recorded in the Volta Region without licence last year.
No record
No cases of motorists operating without licence were recorded in six regions. These are the Upper East, Northern, Upper West, Tema, Oti and Savannah regions.
