Aspiring parliamentary candidate and an active member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Samuel Owusu Amankwaa, has donated GH₵100,000 as seed funding to strengthen grassroots activities and support the organisation of the party’s upcoming constituency elections.

The donation, which is aimed at enhancing preparations for the internal polls, was announced during a meeting Mr Amankwaa held with all aspirants contesting in the constituency elections.

The engagement brought together key stakeholders of the party, including members of the Council of Elders led by the Constituency Chairman, all constituency aspirants, and incumbent constituency executives.

The meeting focused on promoting peace, unity and issue-based campaigning among aspirants as the party prepares to elect new leaders to steer its affairs at the constituency level.

Mr Amankwaa said the internal election process should strengthen rather than divide the party, stressing that the unity of the NPP in Ayawaso West Wuogon remains critical to its future success.

“Elections will come and go, but the NPP in Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency must remain one family. Our unity is our greatest asset heading into 2026,” he said.

He urged all aspirants and party members to conduct their campaigns peacefully and ensure that the contest does not create divisions that could affect the party’s grassroots mobilisation efforts.

Strengthening grassroots structures

The GH₵100,000 donation forms part of Mr Amankwaa’s broader support for strengthening the party’s organisational structures in the constituency.

He has over time provided resources to support constituency activities, particularly initiatives aimed at improving grassroots coordination and party mobilisation.

Earlier this year, he supported the electoral area coordinators’ elections by providing financial assistance to facilitate the process.

Party members said such interventions have contributed to improving the capacity of grassroots structures and ensuring that party activities are effectively organised.

Call for unity after elections

The meeting with constituency aspirants was also seen as an opportunity to encourage unity and cooperation among contenders ahead of the elections.

Mr Amankwaa emphasised that while competition among aspirants was expected in any democratic process, the larger interest of the party must remain the priority.

He encouraged all candidates to focus on ideas, leadership qualities and solutions that would strengthen the constituency rather than engaging in divisive campaigns.

According to him, maintaining peace during and after the elections would be essential to positioning the NPP for future political engagements.
