Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has paid glowing tribute to Namibia’s founding President, Dr. Sam Nujoma, hailing his heroic leadership and dedication to Africa’s liberation.
Dr. Nujoma, a revered statesman who played a pivotal role in Namibia’s independence, passed away at the age of 95.
His death was officially announced by Namibia’s President, Dr. Nangolo Mbumba, who revealed that the former leader died on Saturday night after being hospitalized in the capital, Windhoek.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, former President Akufo-Addo described Dr. Nujoma as “one of the heroes of African liberation,” emphasizing that his contributions extended far beyond Namibia’s fight for independence. According to him, Dr. Nujoma also laid the foundation for a secure, prosperous, and democratic Namibia.
“I join the many Africans and others around the world in conveying my condolences to President Nangolo Mbumba and the people of Namibia, his widow, children, and the leadership of his SWAPO party,” Akufo-Addo stated.

Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia also expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Dr. Nujoma, describing him as a towering figure in Africa’s struggle for liberation.
He noted that the late leader’s impact transcended Namibia, influencing democratic principles across the continent.
