Afenyo-Markin rallies NPP for 2028 comeback

Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has encouraged members and sympathizers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to be disheartened by the party’s loss in the 2024 general elections.
Instead, he assured them that strategic reorganization and revitalization efforts are underway to restore the party’s strength and political influence.
Afenyo-Markin believes the NPP’s resilience in Parliament—even as a minority—demonstrates the party’s continued relevance and readiness to reclaim political power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He urged all members to reconcile their differences and participate fully in the rebuilding process.

Divine guidance and a united front
Speaking on Friday, April 4, 2025, during a courtesy visit from gospel musicians Great Ampong (Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong) and Nicholas Omani Acheampong, the Minority Leader drew inspiration from the Bible, likening the party’s current state to Israel’s defeat in 1 Samuel 4:1–11.
He emphasized that, despite the setback, he firmly believes God’s presence remains with the NPP and that better days are ahead.
He recounted past moments of prayer and spiritual intercession during opposition years, recalling how prayer groups, often led by figures like Cynthia Morrison, would gather to seek divine intervention for the party.
According to Afenyo-Markin, this tradition of relying on faith during times of uncertainty remains crucial. “In difficult times, we’ve always known where to turn—God,” he said.

Reflecting on 2024 Elections
Afenyo-Markin admitted that he struggled to accept the party’s loss, especially given the NPP’s record on social intervention policies. He acknowledged that mistakes during the campaign likely discouraged many voters—including loyal supporters—from participating or voting for the party. Nonetheless, he expressed hope that Ghanaians will eventually recognize the NPP’s efforts and reward them at the ballot box in 2028.
He contrasted the party’s track record with that of the NDC, claiming that while the opposition makes ambitious promises, the NPP has delivered tangible results.
He cited the construction of 12 landing beaches across various coastal communities—projects completed under the Akufo-Addo administration—as examples of the NPP’s commitment to development.

Path to 2028: Reconciliation and Youth Engagement
Fresh from a party retreat, the Minority Leader outlined a vision for rebuilding the NPP centered on reconciliation and engaging the youth.
He believes these two pillars will be vital to redefining the party’s image and regaining public trust.
According to him, this strategy will serve as a foundation for reclaiming political power from the NDC.
Turning to his guests, Afenyo-Markin praised the musicians for their encouragement and symbolic support.
“Your visit today sends a powerful message that we’re not down and out. With renewed energy, a fresh approach, and faith in God, we are poised to return stronger in 2028,” he said.
The Minority Leader ended his remarks with a message of optimism, declaring that the party’s current efforts will pave the way for a political comeback.
