Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi has been named the African Player of the Year, capping off a sensational season with his club and country.

The award, presented by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), recognises the continent’s top football talent, and Hakimi’s performances made him a standout choice.

The Paris Saint-Germain right-back played a pivotal role in both club and national competitions this year. Known for his blistering pace, precise crossing, and defensive solidity, Hakimi has become a cornerstone of every team he has represented.

CAF praised Hakimi for his consistency, professionalism, and impact at the highest level, highlighting his contributions in major European competitions and the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

He becomes the latest Moroccan to win the prestigious award, following in the footsteps of legends like Mohamed Salah and Riyad Mahrez.

In his acceptance speech, Hakimi expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaches, and fans.

Football analysts note that Hakimi’s versatility — capable of playing as a right-back, wing-back, or winger — gives him an edge over his peers.

His recognition reflects the growing prominence of African talent on the global stage, as more players excel in Europe’s top leagues.

The award also serves as an inspiration for young African players aspiring to succeed at the highest level. With Hakimi leading by example, the future of African football looks brighter than ever.

Other winners on the night included Ghizlane Chebbak (Morocco / Al Hilal), who won the women’s player of the year.
