The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported receiving the emergency call at 14:28 hours on Friday, December 5, 2025, and immediately dispatched a rescue team from the Anfoega Fire Station.

By the time firefighters arrived, six injured individuals had already been taken to the Margaret Marquart Catholic Hospital.

According to GNFS, the tipper truck was carrying two people. The driver was injured, while the mate was unharmed.

The Daewoo Matiz had eight occupants; five sustained injuries, and the driver and two others were trapped inside the crushed vehicle, resulting in the accident on the Kpando road.

GNFS personnel successfully rescued all three, but the Matiz driver died at the scene. The two others later passed away at the hospital.

Eyewitnesses said the Daewoo Matiz veered into the lane of the oncoming truck, causing the collision. The smaller vehicle was destroyed, while the truck suffered damage to its front area.

Police assisted in securing the scene as GNFS crews cleared the roadway and restored traffic flow.

However, the Ghana Police Service has issued a strong caution to motorists and other road users as the Christmas season draws closer, urging the public to prioritise safety and help reduce the spike in road crashes typically recorded during the festive period.

According to the Police, the final weeks of the year often see increased traffic, long-distance travel, speeding, and fatigued driving — factors that contribute to a rise in preventable accidents.

They are, therefore, calling on drivers to exercise restraint, maintain safe speeds, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey.

Pedestrians and motorcyclists were reminded to use reflective clothing at night, obey road signs, and stay alert, especially in busy commercial areas and transport terminals.
