Police arrest 72-year-old Sakumono murder suspect
Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, Sakumono murder suspect
The key suspect in the Sakumono murder case, Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, who was on the run, has been arrested at his hideout in Tikrom, near Ejisu, in the Ashanti Region.
The police have given his age as 72.
A 47-year-old woman was earlier arrested in connection with the killing of two people at NTHC Estate in Sakumono, Greater Accra Region, last week.
The woman, identified as Beatrice Mumuni, is alleged to have led the principal suspect, Osei Anto, to the residence of the victims, George Atubiga, 57, and his niece, Irene Atubiga, 47, before they were shot dead on Friday, October 30, 2026.
A Smith & Wesson pistol, together with seven rounds of live ammunition, was retrieved by the police.
Preliminary police investigations suggest that the killings may have resulted from a financial dispute between Osei Anto and George Atubiga.
According to the police, Atubiga had allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000 from the suspect but failed to repay the money.
Osei Anto reportedly visited the victims’ residence on the morning of the incident, accompanied by Mumuni, to demand repayment.
A misunderstanding allegedly ensued, during which Osei Anto reportedly shot and killed the two victims.
