Sulemana joins Serie A side Sassuolo on loan
Ibrahim Kakari Sulemana
Ghana international midfielder Ibrahim Kakari Sulemana has completed a move to Italian Serie A side Sassuolo from Atalanta on a season-long loan deal.
The agreement includes an option for Sassuolo to make the transfer permanent at the end of the 2026/27 season, giving the Italian club the opportunity to retain the 2003-born midfielder beyond the loan period.
Sassuolo officially announced the signing, confirming that it had acquired the sporting services of Sulemana from Atalanta on loan with an option to join the club permanently until June 30, 2027.
“US Sassuolo Calcio announces that it has acquired the sporting services of the footballer Kakari Ibrahim Sulemana (midfielder, 2003) from Atalanta, on loan with an option to join until June 30, 2027,” the club said.
“From the entire black-green family, welcome Ibrahim!” the statement added.
Sulemana, who is part of Ghana’s Black Stars setup, joined Atalanta but spent periods away from the club on loan at fellow Italian sides Bologna and Cagliari as he sought regular first-team football.
The midfielder made a combined 20 appearances for Bologna and Cagliari in all competitions and scored one goal.
He featured four times for Bologna before moving to Cagliari, where he made 16 appearances.
His performances during his spell at Cagliari helped strengthen his claim for a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The move to Sassuolo now presents Sulemana with another opportunity to establish himself in Serie A and compete for regular playing time at a club looking to strengthen its midfield options.
His experience in Italian football, having already featured for three Serie A clubs, is expected to help him adapt quickly to his new surroundings.
Sulemana also becomes the latest Ghanaian international to represent Sassuolo, following in the footsteps of former Black Stars defensive midfielder Alfred Duncan, who spent a combined five years with the club.
Duncan established himself as an important figure during his time at Sassuolo, and Sulemana will now look to build his own career with the black-and-green side.
For Sulemana, the season-long move offers an important opportunity to gain further Serie A experience, increase his playing time and continue his development at the highest level of Italian club football.
With the 2026/27 season ahead, the Ghanaian midfielder will be hoping his performances at Sassuolo can strengthen both his position at club level and his prospects with the Black Stars.
