Popular social media personality and businessman Abu Trica has been released from custody after successfully meeting his GH¢30 million bail conditions.
His release comes days after the court granted him bail in connection with an ongoing legal case that has attracted significant public attention.
Papa Kofi Essel, a member of the legal team representing Abu Trica confirmed that his client has been released after fulfilling his bail conditions.
An Accra High Court granted Abu Trica bail in the sum of GH¢30 million with two justified sureties.
Speaking to Accra-based Citi FM, Essel disclosed that Abu Trica secured his release earlier on Friday, May 15, 2026, describing the development as a demonstration of the country’s commitment to the rule of law and the protection of fundamental human rights.
“He was released today, May 15. Ghana is advancing in recognising the fundamental human rights of citizens, and the rule of law is working,” he said.
Abu Trica was arrested on December 11, 2025, in a joint operation involving Ghanaian security agencies and authorities from the United States, over allegations of involvement in an international cybercrime syndicate.
According to investigators, the alleged network engaged in romance scams targeting elderly victims in the United States, using false identities to build online relationships and defraud victims of more than $8 million.
Prosecutors have indicated that the accused faces charges including conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy—offences that could attract custodial sentences of up to 20 years if proven in a US court.
The case has been before the Gbese District Court as part of extradition proceedings initiated following a formal request by US authorities seeking his transfer to stand trial.
The case involving Abu Trica has generated widespread discussion online, with many closely following updates surrounding the proceedings.
