A love-struck trader has landed in court after allegedly pretending to be a soldier to win the affection of a nurse at 37 Military Hospital.
Joseph Baadah, 34, told the Adabraka District Court that he was not a member of the Ghana Armed Forces and that he wore a military uniform to impress a nurse he had met the day before.
He faces charges of using military attire without lawful authority and falsely claiming to be a public officer. Baadah pleaded not guilty and was granted GH¢30,000 bail with sureties, with his next court date set for March 24, 2026.
According to the prosecution led by Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana, Baadah was spotted on February 8, 2026, around 6:00 PM, at the hospital’s Dispensary Gate.
He was in a camouflage uniform paired with slippers and without any military insignia, which immediately drew suspicion.
The complainant, WOI Fiamegu Mascow of the Military Police, confronted him, revealing that Baadah was a civilian.
He was subsequently arrested, questioned at Burma Camp, and transferred to the Nima Divisional Police.
In his caution statement, Baadah admitted the offence, explaining that he purchased the uniform from a secondhand dealer known as “Fose Bale” at Kantamanto Market and wore it solely to impress the nurse — a plan that now has serious legal consequences.
