The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has urged party supporters and members to moderate their expectations about political appointments, stressing that President John Dramani Mahama cannot offer positions to everyone.
Asiedu Nketia, who is on a tour of the Central Region addressing party faithful during a meeting at Winneba in the Effutu Constituency on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Asiedu Nketia explained that the number of government and party positions available is limited. Therefore, only a fraction of supporters can be accommodated at any given time.
He cautioned members against putting undue pressure on the party leadership or becoming disappointed if they are not selected for appointments.
According to him, political success requires collective effort beyond the pursuit of public office, noting that the party depends on the contributions of grassroots organisers, volunteers and loyal supporters who may never hold official positions but remain vital to the party’s operations.
He encouraged members to continue working for the growth of the party and to prioritise unity and discipline, particularly as the NDC strengthens its internal structures and prepares for upcoming political activities.
“I am aware that some of you are unhappy because you did not get to be appointed to any position upon our return to power., This is understandable. It is the reason why I am embarking on this ‘Thank You Tour’, to explain issues for your understanding.
“The challenge is that, given the number of appointments that the constitution permits President Mahama to make, not all members of the NDC can be taken care of. So be patient. There is no need to be angry with the party,” he said.
He explained the rationale for the appointment of 60 ministers by Mahama.
He said “You will recall that we all complained about the huge number of ministers under Akufo-Addo’s government. That is why we promised to cut it down to 60. This has been done, which means only a few people can be appointed at a time.”
Nketia urged them to channel their grievances through appropriate quarters for redress.
“You have elected a good president who is doing a good job. Everyone acknowledges this fact, including some members of the opposition. So, I urge you to be patient with the government. If you have any concerns that have not been addressed yet. There is time for everything. Your concerns will be addressed. All you need to do is to channel them through the right quarters, and it will be resolved,” he added.
