Lawyers for the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, have confirmed that officers of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) searched his residence as part of ongoing investigations into allegations of the sale of government-funded overseas scholarships.

The search, according to his legal team, followed comments Mr. Nkansah made during a radio discussion in which he alleged that individuals were paying money to secure government scholarships to study abroad.

Lead counsel Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah disclosed that the NIB officers who conducted the search were unable to produce a warrant when questioned.

Mr. Nkansah had earlier been invited by the NIB to assist with investigations after President John Dramani Mahama directed the intelligence agency to probe the claims.

The directive followed public reaction to Mr. Nkansah’s remarks on Sompa 106.5 FM, where he alleged that payments were being made to obtain state-sponsored scholarships.

The allegations triggered widespread public concern regarding transparency and fairness in the award of government-funded educational opportunities.

In a statement dated February 3, 2026, the Office of the President described the claims as “serious and of grave public concern.”

The statement tasked the NIB with verifying the allegations, identifying any individuals involved, and submitting its findings directly to the President for further action.

Addressing reports circulating on social media, the legal team clarified that Mr. Nkansah was not arrested.

They insisted that he voluntarily honoured the NIB’s invitation and cooperated fully with investigators.

According to the lawyers, Mr. Nkansah provided information relevant to the alleged sale of scholarships by the Scholarship Secretariat, consistent with the President’s directive for a thorough probe into the matter.

They maintained that his engagement with the intelligence agency was aimed at supporting investigations and ensuring that any wrongdoing, if established, is properly addressed.

The NIB has yet to publicly comment on the search or the status of its investigations.
