A major fire broke out at the Kasoa New Market on the evening of Sunday, January 4, 2026, destroying property estimated to be worth thousands of Ghana cedis.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed that the blaze affected large sections of the market. Fire crews from the Kasoa and Weija Fire Stations were first on the scene, but the intensity of the inferno necessitated additional support.
As a result, all available fire tenders and water pumps from Accra were deployed to aid firefighting efforts.
Firefighters are working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby shops and residential buildings.
The full scale of the damage remains unclear, and no casualties have been officially reported so far.
Authorities have advised traders and residents to stay away from the area to allow emergency personnel unhindered access. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
