Bibiani GoldStars have signalled their ambitions loud and clear ahead of the 2025/26 season by naming Swiss coach Fritz Markus Schmid as their new head coach.
The reigning Ghana Premier League champions confirmed Schmid’s two-year deal, entrusting him with the task of steering the club through a crucial stage of its evolution.
After a meteoric rise over the past few seasons, GoldStars clinched their first-ever league title in June 2025 and secured a spot in the CAF Champions League. Now, with Schmid on board, the club hopes to build on that success both at home and on the continent.
Schmid arrives with a wealth of experience in elite football. From his time as assistant coach at Tottenham Hotspur to roles in the technical setup of Swiss giants FC Basel, he brings knowledge of high-performance environments and player development—skills GoldStars’ management believes are vital for long-term growth.
The appointment comes after a period of transition. Former coach Frimpong Manso parted ways with the club following an early exit from the CAF Champions League preliminary round—a stark reminder of the challenges of competing at Africa’s highest level.
GoldStars’ league triumph showed their potential, but the continental stage exposed gaps in tactical depth and international experience.
Fritz Markus Schmid’s mission is to close those gaps, stabilise domestic performances, and lay the groundwork for the sustained success of Bibiani GoldStars in Africa.
In his first remarks, Schmid called the role “a significant honour and an exciting challenge,” expressing excitement about bringing his football philosophy to Ghana while enhancing the squad’s proven strengths.
