The Ghana Police Service has arrested a total of 79 suspects in separate security operations conducted in the Eastern Region and the Tema enclave as part of heightened policing measures ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities.
Of the total arrests, 41 suspects were picked up in the Eastern Region, while 38 others were apprehended in Tema and its surrounding communities.
In a statement, the police said the Eastern Region arrests followed a series of targeted, intelligence-led operations carried out across several communities identified as crime-prone.
The areas covered included Nkwatia, Nkawkaw, Kwahu Tafo, Saafi, Trado, Kotoso, Effiduase, Nteso, Somanya, Krobo Odumase and Juaben.
According to the police, the operations formed part of the Service’s Christmas special policing strategy aimed at deterring criminal activities, enhancing public safety and ensuring a peaceful festive season for residents.
Officers deployed to the various locations conducted swoops at suspected criminal hideouts and hotspots, leading to the arrest of individuals believed to be involved in narcotics-related offences and other unlawful activities.

Meanwhile, in the Tema enclave, at least 38 suspects were arrested in coordinated operations carried out simultaneously in Prampram, Tema Newtown, Sege and Kpong.
Security sources said the Tema operations were intelligence-driven and designed to disrupt criminal networks operating within the area. The suspects are believed to be involved in a range of criminal activities, including robbery, drug-related offences and other forms of organised crime that have raised concerns among residents.
The police said the simultaneous nature of the operations was intended to prevent suspects from evading arrest and to maximise the impact of the exercise.
All 79 suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with investigations.
The police indicated that those found culpable would be processed for court in accordance with the law.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order during the festive season and urged the public to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.
Residents have been assured that security patrols and intelligence-led operations will continue across the country to safeguard lives and property throughout the Christmas and New Year period.
