The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Augustus Nana Kwasi Andrews, is facing growing pressure from party grassroots members who are demanding job opportunities as the political season intensifies.

He said constituency executives, branch leaders, and foot soldiers have been mounting consistent pressure on him, arguing that the commitment and hard work of the grassroots during the party’s reorganisation must be rewarded.

Many believe the party’s recent momentum in the region should translate into economic opportunities for long-standing members.

According to him, the demands range from public sector employment to support for small businesses and vocational opportunities.

Some grassroots members claim they feel left behind despite dedicating years to door-to-door mobilisation, campaign activities, and defending the party in a region often considered an NPP stronghold.

The chairman said he is holding a series of engagements with executives and party financiers to explore practical solutions.

Addressing the press in Kumasi on December 8, 2025, Andrews commended party members for their critical role in securing the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general elections, assuring that the party would not neglect those who worked tirelessly for the win.

He said “Looking at the campaign that we did last election (2024), they did very well. They used their energy, their money, their resources, everything. And you know that when you work for somebody, and the person wins power, you have to compensate the person. And there’s a lot of pressure on me. So everybody is demanding.

“The grassroots are calling for more, and everybody needs their own share. That’s why I’m asking my branches to remain calm. They should have hope in H.E President John Dramani Mahama.

“We know that not everybody will get, but the few that will get an appointment, we have to bring it down so that everybody can enjoy their sweat.”

Party leaders in the Ashanti Region are urging calm, assuring members that structures are being put in place to support job creation, skills development, and economic empowerment initiatives.

They also emphasised that the party, currently in opposition, must operate within realistic limits.

As the NDC intensifies preparations toward the next election, managing expectations among the base remains a key challenge for the regional leadership.
