The Ministry of the Interior has officially declared Friday, December 5, 2025, a statutory public holiday in observance of National Farmers’ Day.
The announcement, made in a public statement, signed by the sector Minister, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, emphasised the day’s importance in honouring the vital role farmers and fishers play in Ghana’s development.
According to the Ministry, the public holiday on December 5 is meant to allow citizens across the country to fully participate in activities marking this year’s edition of Farmers’ Day.
The celebrations typically include national and regional award ceremonies, exhibitions, and programmes designed to highlight the contributions of individuals and groups working within the agricultural sector.
Farmers’ Day remains one of Ghana’s most significant annual events, recognising the people who ensure national food security, support agro-based industries, and contribute substantially to the economy.
Over the years, the celebration has expanded to include innovations in agriculture, sustainable farming practices, and youth involvement in agribusiness.
This year’s celebration is being held under the theme “Eat Ghana, Grow Ghana, Secure the Future.”
The Ministry urged the public to observe the holiday responsibly and join in appreciating the hard work, dedication, and resilience of Ghana’s farmers and fishers.
The 41st Farmers’ Day grand durbar and awards ceremony will be hosted in Ho, in the Volta Region.
Farmers Day, instituted in 1985, continues to serve as a platform to celebrate the resilience and dedication of Ghana’s farmers, whose efforts sustain food security, drive exports, and contribute significantly to the economy.
