The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has ordered the immediate release of the queenmother of Kwahu, Nana Adwoa Gyemfua, after a team of officers stormed the Abene Palace early Monday, November 17, 2025.

He has further tasked the Police Professional Standards Bureau to probe the circumstances surrounding the operation and to ensure that any officers who violated procedures face the appropriate disciplinary actions.

The development came after widespread alarm over claims that the Kwahu queenmother had been forcibly taken from her residence at Abene.

According to reports, armed men dressed in police uniforms and claiming to be operatives from National Security invaded the Paramount Chief’s Palace at Abene around 4 a.m.

Residents recounted hearing several gunshots before the queenmother, who was inside the palace at the time, was taken away.

Security presence across Kwahu has since been heightened to protect locals and visitors.

In a separate development, reports stated that the arrest of the Kwahuhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, followed the same dawn operation.

Sources say the raid was led by personnel from the Police Headquarters, and that shots were exchanged during the encounter.

Meanwhile, both the Nkawkaw and Kwahu Divisional Police Commands have denied knowledge of the operation, raising concerns about coordination and command within the security services.
