President John Dramani Mahama has officially welcomed the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Bundespräsident Frank-Walter Steinmeier, to Ghana, marking a significant moment in diplomatic relations between the two nations.

The German leader arrived in Accra to begin a state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, economic ties, and partnerships in areas such as energy, trade, youth development, and security with Mahama.

In a warm ceremony at Jubilee House, President Mahama expressed Ghana’s appreciation for Germany’s long-standing support, highlighting the European nation’s contributions to infrastructure development, education, and governance reforms in the country.

He noted that Ghana remains committed to enhancing its strategic partnership with Germany, especially in emerging sectors like renewable energy and digital innovation.

President Steinmeier commended Ghana for its stable democratic environment and ongoing commitment to regional peace and economic advancement.

He emphasised Germany’s readiness to deepen collaboration with Ghana in key sectors, including vocational training, climate-related initiatives, and private-sector growth.

He also praised Ghana’s leadership role within ECOWAS and its continued advocacy for peace and development across West Africa.

During the visit, both leaders are expected to hold bilateral discussions, engage with business communities, and tour selected development projects supported by Germany.

The visit forms part of Germany’s efforts to strengthen cooperation with African nations and promote sustainable economic partnerships based on mutual benefit.

The warm reception and constructive dialogue signal renewed energy in Ghana-Germany relations, with both countries expressing optimism for expanded opportunities and shared prosperity in the coming years.

The German leader, after his talks with Mahama, will continue his visit on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, with a trip to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, where he is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace.

While in Kumasi, President Steinmeier will participate in a series of engagements highlighting Ghana-Germany cooperation in education, culture, and sustainable development before departing the country later that evening.
