The National House of Chiefs has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Ghana’s former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

The House described her as a trailblazer and a towering figure in the nation’s history whose legacy of service and advocacy will continue to inspire generations.

In a statement signed by Mr. Stephen Owusu, Public Relations Officer of the House, the House said the death of the former First Lady is a great loss to the nation, noting that she would be remembered as a woman of courage, conviction, and compassion who dedicated her life to public service.

“Her passing is a great loss to our nation. Ghana mourns not only a former First Lady but also a trailblazer — a woman of courage, conviction, and compassion who dedicated her life to the service of others,” the statement read.

The House highlighted Nana Konadu’s lifelong commitment to the empowerment of women and children, citing her instrumental role in founding and leading the 31st December Women’s Movement, which transformed lives through initiatives in education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.

“Her voice and leadership helped shape national conversations on gender equality, social justice, and inclusive development long before these became mainstream causes,” the statement said.

It also commended her for the unwavering support she gave to her late husband during a defining period in Ghana’s political history, describing her as a devoted wife and partner whose “grace, discipline, and deep sense of duty earned her respect both at home and abroad.”

The National House of Chiefs said Ghana had lost a “remarkable mother, leader, and stateswoman” whose contributions to the nation would never be forgotten.

“On behalf of the members of the National House of Chiefs, the chieftaincy institution of Ghana, and on my own behalf, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Rawlings family and to all Ghanaians,” the statement concluded.
