Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to deliver world-class development if elected President, citing his record of innovation and technological transformation as proof of his capability.
Dr. Bawumia gave the assurance as he concluded his campaign tour of the Bono East Region, where he visited all eleven constituencies.
The final leg of the tour took him to Techiman North and South, where he engaged with party delegates and supporters.
Highlighting his achievements in government, the former Vice President pointed to Ghana’s remarkable strides in digital transformation, particularly through initiatives such as the Ghana Card and the Mobile Money Interoperability system.
He noted that the Ghana Card had positioned Ghana ahead of several advanced nations, including the United Kingdom, which is only now working to introduce a similar national identification system.
On digital finance, Dr. Bawumia emphasised the impact of the Mobile Money Interoperability platform, which he said had revolutionised financial transactions and made Ghana the first country in Africa to achieve such a milestone.
“Mobile money accounts have grown from 8 million to 24 million, and the number of agents has increased from 107,000 to about 900,000, all because of the interoperability system,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia also highlighted the success of the Zipline drone delivery system, describing Ghana as a global leader in medical drone services — a model now being studied by countries like the United Kingdom.
Outlining his broader vision for Ghana, he stated: “That is why I say, when you vote for me, I will bring world-class development. You can believe me because what I have done as Vice President shows that I will do even more as President.
He added that ongoing digital reforms in the health sector — including the ability to renew National Health Insurance cards electronically — form part of his commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians through innovation and technology.
