Former Energy Minister under the erstwhile administration of Nana Addo, Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, has formally announced his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairmanship position.

Agyarko, in a press statement dated Tuesday, September 30, noted that the decision follows a broad consultation with family members and close allies.

“I have had consultations with members of my family and those who are very close to me, and whose lives would be most affected by the decision I make”, he said.

Boakye Agyarko further described the move as a “call to duty” after carefully listening to what the broad masses of the party and indeed many outside the NPP are asking of him.

“Having factored in all the considerations, I see it as my bounden duty to respond to this call to duty and hereby announce that I will contest for the position of National Chairman of my party upon the opening of nominations” the statement announced.

The former Minister becomes the first NPP leading member to officially declare his intention to ran for the position.

However, there are growing indications within the party that the immediate past NPP General Secretary, John Boadu, is also lacing his boots for the chairmanship position.

The largest opposition is at a critical period of reorganising the party structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.
