Accra Hearts of Oak continued their bright start to the 2025–26 Ghana Premier League season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Techiman Eleven Wonders at the Accra Sports Stadium.

A first-half strike from winger Enock Asubonteng proved decisive as the Phobians secured their second consecutive win of the campaign, temporarily moving to the summit of the league table with seven points from three matches.

The victory followed Hearts’ impressive away triumph over Dreams FC in week two, and coach Mas-ud Didi Dramani looked determined to deliver his first home win against an Eleven Wonders side still searching for their first victory since returning to the top flight.

Despite missing key players Kelvin Osei Asibey and Mohammed Hussein, Hearts looked dominant from the onset.

Their early pressure paid off in the 18th minute when Asubonteng pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area and smashed home a ferocious left-footed shot to send the home fans into jubilation.

The Phobians controlled much of the first half, creating several opportunities to extend their lead but failing to make them count. Eleven Wonders, however, looked dangerous on the counter-attack and came close to equalising, only to be denied by Hearts goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, whose sharp reflexes underlined his reputation as one of the league’s best shot stoppers.

The second half saw a more balanced contest, with Hearts continuing to probe for a second goal. Midfielder Ransford Mensah nearly doubled the lead midway through the half after a brilliant solo run, but his effort was superbly saved by Wonders’ goalkeeper J. Baah.

In the closing stages, the visitors piled pressure on the Phobians, forcing Hearts onto the back foot. Asare once again came to the rescue with a string of crucial saves to preserve the slender advantage and ensure all three points stayed in Accra.

The result leaves Hearts unbeaten after three games and brimming with confidence ahead of a tricky away fixture against Bechem United next weekend.

They will then return home in week five for the highly anticipated Super Clash against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko — a showdown that could shape the early season narrative of the GPL.

For Eleven Wonders, the search for a first win continues, but their spirited late performance suggests they could soon become a tough challenge for other league opponents.
