Samira re-appointed global champion of clean cooking alliance

Samira Bawumia retains global role in promoting clean cooking solutions

Mrs Samira Bawumia, Ghana’s former Second Lady, has been re-appointed as a Global Champion of the Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA) for her tireless efforts in promoting clean cooking, women’s empowerment, and climate justice.

This appointment was announced by CCA’s CEO, Dymphna van der Lans, during the organisation’s Leadership Series in Washington, D.C, U.S.A.

Mrs Bawumia has been a vocal advocate for clean cooking solutions, emphasising their importance in addressing health, gender equality, and climate issues.

Through initiatives like the Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects (SEHP) and the Africa Women and Children Conference (AFRIWOCC), she has created platforms for women to lead and shape policy.

Her work highlights the need for urgent action to address the global clean cooking crisis, which affects millions of people worldwide.

Samira global championMrs Samira, reappointed as the global champion, has received worldwide recognition for her leadership, including being named the first honoree at the Seven for 7 Awards by SEforALL and Ashden in 2019.

In her re-appointment, Mrs Bawumia expressed gratitude and resolve, stating, “I am honoured by this renewed mandate as a Global Champion for CCA. What gives me hope is the visionary leadership of CCA and its unwavering mandate to make clean cooking a global priority”.

She looked forward to continuing their work together to ensure a cleaner, healthier, and more equitable future for all.
