MTN Ghana has launched the maiden edition of DigiFest, a festival designed to celebrate and showcase digital innovation, creativity, and opportunity in Ghana.

The event, which opened in Accra, brought together innovators, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and young people to explore how technology can transform lives and drive inclusive economic growth.

The event will run throughout the month of September.

Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to building an inclusive digital future, stressing that Africa’s progress will be driven by technology and innovation.

He noted that MTN Ghana no longer considers itself just a telecommunications company but a digital company, enabling people to live, work, and participate in the global digital space.

“This festival is a celebration of our journey together so far, and the future we are building as a digital company.

We are not simply connecting people to the internet; we are connecting them to opportunities, knowledge, jobs, and a future that is bold, inclusive, and digital,” he said.

He explained that advancements in mobile money, health, education, gaming, enterprise solutions, and artificial intelligence (AI) are transforming lives and opening up new economic opportunities for individuals and businesses in Ghana.

Highlighting MTN’s investments in Ghana’s digital infrastructure, he disclosed that the company has invested over $1 billion in the past five years and will commit an additional $240 million this year to expand coverage, improve speed, and connect more Ghanaians to the digital economy.

“These investments represent schools accessing e-learning, small businesses reaching new markets, hospitals delivering smart healthcare, and innovators creating solutions that the world will one day celebrate as ‘Made in Ghana’,” he stated.

Stephen Blewett further noted the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in healthcare, financial inclusion, and government efficiency, pledging MTN’s support for AI-driven solutions that will improve customer experience and unlock new growth opportunities.

As part of DigiFest activities, MTN Ghana will host hackathons, community AI sessions, digital experience exhibitions, tech quizzes, and gamified engagements designed to inspire young innovators.

He also announced support for initiatives like the One-LEGUP Project, which equips young people with coding and artificial intelligence skills.

“I want to personally challenge young innovators to bring forward groundbreaking ideas that can grow our minds. When you do, MTN will be there to support you. The next greatest idea should and will come from Africa—and it can come from Ghana,” he declared.

The CEO emphasized that the MTN Ambition 2025 vision remains clear: to lead digital solutions for Africa’s progress by ensuring that no one is left behind in the digital era.

Chief Digital Officer of MTN Ghana, Ibrahim Misto, said DigiFest represents a bold step in shaping Ghana’s digital future and creating opportunities for all.

“Today we celebrate the limitless possibilities of Ghana’s digital future, and the future we are building together as a truly digital company.

Technologies such as AI, mobile gaming, and digital creativity are redefining industries—from banking and healthcare to agriculture and entertainment,” he said.

Mr. Misto highlighted the growth of gaming as a powerful industry that is now creating careers and professional opportunities for young people worldwide.

He stressed that MTN’s role is evolving beyond products and services to becoming “a technology partner, an ecosystem builder, and a digital enabler.”

“DigiFest is not just about technology—it’s about creating a digital future where every individual, every business, and every community has the power to thrive. It is our way of bringing that future closer to our customers and our communities,” he added.
